Tuesday, August 26th: Relax !!!
Dear all !
It has been a while since I updated the blog but recent weeks have taken their tolls….Even I had to admit that sometimes you just need to focus on what is really important and so I had to set my priorities different in order to cope with everything going on.
To give you the most important part first, we are currently enjoying the sun and the wonderful pool in Majorca ! Only 2 weeks ago we have been discharged from hospital with Luka starting to gain some more strenght after being in hospital for quite a few weeks with high temperatures triggered by viruses, chemo and severe infections. But he seemed to turn the corner quite quickly this time and throughout the first week ‚home‘ after being discharged he started to get in touch with neighbours kids, enjoyed the trampoline (that I finally set up !!!), got very skilled with his scooter, racing up and down the street and finally got another friend over from London ;)))…..He finally started to be the little boy again that I last saw in London, long before school stopped and long before we left ;(
When we checked bloods at Uni Clinic in Frankfurt Friday the 15th and Luka’s counts improved significantly, the doc basically sent us away on prescription ;). We did not hesitate too long. So after finally a few days at home with Luka and Franzi playing in the streets, Annika and Mika still being away in the States, Karsten at work I had the chance to unpack and finally do some work in the new house to get a bit more settled. Not really relaxing but with Majorca in sight very well doable 😉
So then last Wednesday we took a little detour via Munich and flew last Friday from Munich to Palma…and here we are !!!!
Thanks to Sabine and Nico’s wonderful house it feels like home again (we spent quite some time here already, usually from the UK) and slowly we are all realizing what we have been through the last weeks…
For the kids it seems to be ’normal‘ as we have been here plenty of times before, enjoyed the pool, the beach, the house, met friends….
It will only strange when we fly back to Germany…..and not to the UK from here….
As you might see from my writing, my words, my mood, I am still not able to look back, still licking my wounds, try to understand everything. Especially with school starting tomorrow in London, all those emails flashing up….I am not yet ready to face the fact that everything changed and that we do not fly back to London. On the other hand, so many important things happened throughout these last weeks that I know there is no other place we should go to than Frankfurt !
These facts leave me in a dilemma that I am currently not able to solve…I’ve had no time so far to digest the past and I have no time to adjust to what is coming up because I am so worn out and busy with today, the here and now…..sounds quite wheird but this is exactly describing my current state of mind.
So I will use the next 10 (TEN !!!) days to recharge my batteries and try to solve my little dilemma so that I can work a bit on the past and hope a little bit for the future and what comes next ! In order to recharge, I will update the blog only with pictures (as I finally got my new mobile TODAY !!!) but as you know pics say more than words.
Just to let you quickly know about the new plans:
When we come back from Majorca Luka will be able to participate in a new antigen treatment which will be tested in Frankfurt. Very complicated, sounds very straight forward, very clear and logic and more important less toxic for him. To describe it very short, he will receive and infusion with the CD 99 antigen that find the tumor cells, attaches to it (only this cancer has this specific genemutation) and then he will receive some radioactive material that sends alpha beams onto the combined cells (alpha beams are very shorttime but very high impact beams on the tumor cells). This should work as well on micrometastatic cells….so we hope that the antigenes find and destroy all cancer cells….
We hope that this might start right away…if not we have to do another cycle of chemo before we start…so we hope as always for the best !!!
But for now we will enjoy the sun and the pool as you can see from the fotos 😉

Hi Steffie, gut zu hören, wie es Euch ergangen ist. Genießt die Ferien und tankt etwas Kraft.
All the best, Ulrike
Fabulous to see you are relaxing and letting the universe come to you.
We are thrilled things sound bright.
You were in our thoughts this morning as school kicked off (was a little strange to not see the ‚Stroh Mobile’in the bus bay!
Every time we see a car like yours. Alex says, ‚are they back??’…
Nonetheless, enjoy your over due break, get some energy back and we look forward to some news when we can!
Ps: tell Luka, Alex has planned the cinema schedule for all the new films.. You never know!
