Wednesday, 24th of October 2014: Slipping away is so easy…
Unbelievable, the last two and a half weeks have been passing like a fast train (rather a german than a british one ;). After coming back from a wonderful trip to Majorca, it was just too easy to slip away from reality and dive into a new daily routine. Everything we worked out long ahead of our move back to Germany seems to work so far ! The kids all started off in their new schools quite good and if I see the bunch of children I have around each day in our garden I think they found some friends already ;).
Slowly the boxes and piles at home are getting less as well, so we can settle more and more. This week is the week of parents evenings which gives me tons to do but also really nice people to meet. Seems that we had a lucky hand so far!
Unfortunately there are moments that I have to get back to reality and this means dealing with hospital, chemo and scans. This is usually a very hard landing …for Luka as well as for us parents.
Last week we had to take the decision to continue with ’some kind‘ of chemo in order to prevent another ‚possible‘ or ‚likely‘ relapse. We are still waiting for the new antibody treatment that is currently in the pipeline. But the docs and scientists are still facing some technical as well as legal problems. So we have nothing more to do than wait and bridge the time until treatment with whatever seems appropriate. As there is no clear answer or evidence to that and Luka clearly stated he doesn’t want to stay in hospital for chemo anymore we started an oral chemo treatment at home. Today is day 6 and he is feeling fine. Taking his tablets like a proffessional 😉 From day 11 he will receive a more aggressive tablet…let’s see what happens and keep fingers crossed for a good result with less side effects.
The most worrying part is now that we have a full body check up tomorrow…..MRI, PET scan, heart ultrasound and so on….this will reveal anything going on in his body…
…no need to tell you how we feel today…
So let’s hope for the best results so we can start into the new treatment in remission…
Even more important for Luka, the other kids and me is the fact that we booked flights to London for next week….Finally a long weekend ‚back home‘ with friends and memories 😉
I will keep you updated…..
